Computers on the Internet are found usually by looking up the name (ucann2.org). This name has a unique identifying number that has to be found. The process by which this number is found is called Domain Name Service (DNS). This names-to-number resolution make browsing the Internet easier. (Think of a phone book) With the decreasing number of unique numbers for use on the Internet, a new numbering system was created, Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). Along with the new numbering system, many Top Level Domains (TLD’s) (the ORG in ucann2.org) can be added. The new additions of these TLD’s are accessible through the normal names-to-numbering system (DNS). UCANN2, has created a new methodology of the many companies out that offer a unique TLD.
UCANN2 was founded in 1999 and formed in the end of 2000. UCANN2 is the United Cooperations for Advancing the Names and Numbers. UCANN2 is a not-for-profit that allows Top Level Domain (TLD) holders to add and maintain their respective TLD without the hassle of independent system structures.
Without the use of UCANN2 the inclusive expansion of names on the Internet would not be maintainable.
We at UCANN2 believe that all tools that IT personnel uses should be uncluttered and free, therefore we have constructed all our tools to be used from within scripts and without advertisements.
